Mining is important in Canada because it is a huge part of our economy. We rank third in the world for the production of minerals and first in the world for the export of minerals. (Clark, et.al., 2006)
- a) Most of Canada's metallic mineral resources are found in the Boreal Shield (Clark, et.al.,2006). b) Igneous and metamorphic rocks are found in that region (Clark, et.al., 2006). c) Metallic mineral mining is not important in the Arctic Cordillera, the Southern Arctic, the Taiga Plains, the Tundra Cordillera, the Taiga Shield and the Hudson Bay Plain (Clark, et.al., 2006).
- Major non-metallic mineral mines are found in the Mixedwood Plains (Clark, et.al., 2006).
- The fact that all three types of minerals are found in the Atlantic Maritime ecozone tells us that all rock types are found in this area (Clark, et.al., 2006).
- Both metallic minerals and fossil fuels are found in Canada's Arctic ecozone because this is where the source was before glaciation. A trace of indicator minerals through glaciation led to this conclusion (Clark, et.al., 2006).
- This map does not show the location of sand and gravel mining because these are types of non-metallic minerals (Clark, et.al., 2006).
